We all learn at a different pace. The DSA suggests that around 40 hours of professional training with an Approved Driving Instructor plus private practice will provide you with the best chance of passing the driving test. You need to be 17 or over and have a valid provisional licence. Provisional Licence Application: Apply online or complete a D1 form from the Post Office and send it to the DVLA with your passport or birth certificate and a passport-sized photo as ID. You can apply for it up to three months before your 17th birthday and you could book your first lesson for the big day! Preparing for your lessons: You will need to present your provisional driving license to your instructor on your first lesson. To get the most out of your lessons we advise you wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear. High heels or sandals are not advisable. Don’t have a late night the night before a lesson and don’t drink alcohol. Please be aware that some drugs may cause drowsiness so take advise from your doctor if in doubt. If you require glasses or contact lenses please ensure you are wearing them for your lesson. Also, it is advisable you have a look at the highway code before taking lessons as you will need to follow rules and regulations such as speed limits. You can still get penalty points even on a provisional license! And finally.. Don’t worry about nerves, let your instructor know if you feel at all nervous, it’s not unusual! |
