Your driving test consists of two parts– the Theory Test and the Practical Test. You will need to complete and pass your Theory examination before you can book your Practical Test.

 

Theory test.

This is a computerised examination consisting of 50 multiple choice questions (43 correct to pass) and 14 hazard perception clips (44 out of 75 to pass). To prepare for this test you will need to learn the official DSA highway code. It is also advisable to obtain an official DSA theory pack. This will take you through every possible question to ensure you are ready for the exam and the practise DVD included will prepare you for the hazard perception part of the test.

Practical Test.

Once you have successfully completed your Theory Test and have achieved the required standard of driving you may book you Practical Driving Test. Your instructor will inform you when they think you are ready to book your test. This test is very straightforward and usually lasts around 40 minutes conducted by a fully qualified DSA examiner and includes:

· Eyesight test.

· 2 questions from the ’show me tell me’ list.

· 2 manoeuvres and 1 possible emergency stop.

· An overall assessment of general driving skills and alertness to various situations.

 

During the course of this test you are allowed up to 15 minor faults however any fault considered dangerous or serious will result in test failure.
